About this app

This Android application is an explanation of Zakat as the Economic Strength of the People by Dr. Sumar'in Asmawi. In Pdf format.

I consider the presence of this book to be very meaningful at the right moment as an enlightenment, motivation and encouragement for all of us to look again and measure ourselves and our society, especially regarding the awareness and potential of "Zakat". Zakat as a form of worship, not only has a vertical meaning of obedience to Allah SWT, but also has a horizontal social aspect in helping the people, having an impact that not only provides changing power to those who do zakat (muzakki) but also to other people who receive it (mustahik).

History records that zakat is the economic strength of Muslims, which is capable of prosperity and is an all-powerful force. The golden and glorious period of Islam noted that zakat was one of the economic instruments as the main income that was able to boost the economy of Islamic society.

In history, it is also recorded that the Prophet Muhammad SAW once gave two dirhams of sadaqah to a poor man, while advising him to use one dirham of the money for food and another dirham to buy an ax (wood cutting tool) and work with the axe. Fifteen days later this person came again to the Prophet SAW and said that he had worked and managed to get ten dirhams. Half the money is used for food and the other half for buying clothes. This story is a clear example that Zakat is very capable of empowering the community's economy.

Zakat is given not only to the poor to fulfill their needs, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW suggests that zakat can free a poor person from his poverty. In fact, the Prophet Muhammad SAW determined mustahik on the basis of precise targets. If there are no more mustahik then the zakat funds are sent outside the region or to be put into the baitul maal fund as was done by Mu'az during the time of Caliph Umar. Three times the Governor of Yemen sent zakat to Umar, and three times Umar refused, that he had not ordered Mu'az to collect tribute. But Mu'az explained that he no longer received mustahik zakat.

That is the greatness of history, which records that Muslims have been victorious, Muslims have experienced a surplus of assets and one of the things that makes this strength is the power of Zakat which not only has the dimension of ritual worship but also as an economic force in building the country's civilization.
