About this app

This Android application is The Early Caliphate Khulafa-ur-Rasyidin. In PDF format.

Author: Muhammad Ali

In this book “Khulafa-ur-Rashidin” I will describe the period of thirty years since the death of the Holy Prophet. In Islamic history this period was known as the Rashidah Khilafah or the Righteous Caliph, the underlined meaning is that the people chosen to control this Islamic government during that period were also examples of sincerity and that they led Muslim countries to develop both financially and materially. as well as spiritual In the hadiths of the Holy Prophet, this thirty year period is specifically called the Caliphate or Succession of the Holy Prophet, to distinguish it from the Mulk or Islamic Empires that came after it.

In the last phase of the Holy Prophet's life he was prophet and king, a spiritual guide of the Ummah and also the head of its government; therefore the later part of the Islamic empire where the king was only the head of government did not fully reflect the idea of being a successor. In any case, the Rashidah Caliphate or Early Caliphs, both aspects fully represent the succession of the Prophet, and it is for this reason that I included in the history of the Caliphs, the life events of the four reigning Caliphs who formed the Early Caliphs, namely Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman. and 'Ali.

I will call attention to two striking points around which great misconceptions pervade. The first is the general impression among Muslims and non-Muslims alike that, although the battles that the Holy Prophet had to fight were self-defense and not offensive, the wars of the Early Caliphs were fought for nothing but the expansion of Islam and its empire. In this short history I have shown that this is a deeply erroneous view, and that the Muslims never invaded to impose their religion or even their rule on their neighboring kingdoms; or give what is often referred to as an alternative to choose: Islam or Jizyah. This question has been thoroughly discussed in the lives of Abu Bakr and 'Umar.

The second issue on which I would like to pay special attention is to the same major misconception, namely the internal divisions in the time of 'Uthman and 'Ali. The example of greatness shown by Abu Bakr and 'Umar is not mentioned again in the history of 'Uthman and 'Ali; only the disclosure with a different atmosphere.

This book was originally written in Urdu in the form of a simple history. Elements from the lives of the Caliphs were added in the second edition, and it is this second edition that is now presented in English attire. I have done the translation together with my capable and eminent brother Maulana Muhammad Ya'qub Khan, Editor of “The Light” magazine, to whom my sincere gratitude for his hard work is filled with love.
