And the meaning of Taghut as defined by Imam Ibn Qayyim Rahimahullah is: "Everything with which the servant transgresses the limit, whether it is worshiped, or followed, or obeyed so that Thâghût is every people that he judges other than Allah and His Messenger, or who are followed without bashirah from Allah, or who are obeyed without knowing that it is obedience to Allah, then these Taghuts if you pay attention to them and pay attention to the condition of the people around them who are with them, you will see that most of them (turn away) from worship to Allah becomes the worship of the Taghut, from ruling to Allah and His Messenger to judging the Taghut and from obeying Him and following His Messenger to obeying the Taghut and following him” [I'lamu al-Muwaqqi'in].

And the leaders of the Thaghuts were five:

First: Satan who calls to worship other than Allah, the argument for which is the word of Allah Ta'ala;

Second: The evil judge who changes God's laws. The evidence is the word of Allah Ta'ala;

Third: Who judges with other than what Allah has sent down. The evidence is the word of Allah Ta'ala;

Fourth: Those who claim to have unseen knowledge other than Allah, the argument for which is the word of Allah Ta'ala;

Fifth: Who is worshiped besides Allah Ta'ala and he is pleased with that worship. The evidence is the word of Allah Ta'ala.
