Rarely do those who contemplate it and understand it, until it is imbued with Shari'a. There are many actions of fasting people that do not invalidate the fast, but invalidate the great reward.

Imam Muhammad al-Ghazali, a Sufi who really understands the science of fiqh, gave an idea about the secret of fasting. As a fiqh expert as well as a tasawwuf expert, Imam Ghazali does not only see fasting as a bodily worship. Therefore, his idea about the secret of fasting makes us aware of the importance of fasting physically and spiritually.
