Among the most important concepts in our fiqh today is what I often mention in my various books, which I call "priority fiqh" (fiqh al-awlawiyyat).

Prior to this I used another term in my book, al-Shahwah al-Islamiyyah bayn al-Juhud wa al-Tatharruf, namely fiqh of job order (fiqh maratib al-a'mal).

What I mean by that term is to put things on a fair footing, in terms of law, value, and practice. The work that was first carried out must take precedence, based on valid shari'ah judgments, guided by the light of revelation, and enlightened by reason.

"... Light upon light..." (an-Nuur: 35)

So that something that is not important does not take precedence over something that is important. Something important does not take precedence over something more important. Something that is not strong (marjuh) does not take precedence over something that is strong (rajih). And something "ordinary" just doesn't take precedence over something major, or most important.

Something that should come first must come first, and what should come to an end must come to an end. Something small doesn't need to be brought up, and something important shouldn't be overlooked. Every matter must be put in its place in a balanced and straight manner, neither more nor less.

As said by Allah SWT:

"And Allah SWT has raised the heavens and He placed the balance (justice). So that you do not exceed the limit on the balance. And establish the scale fairly and do not reduce the balance." (ar-Rahman:7-9)


Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
