About this app

The USN Morse Code Flashing Light (MCFL) mobile application is designed to effectively facilitate and accelerate sailors' learning of MCFL signals at the speed used in U.S. Navy Visual Communications. Communication is at the core of both safe navigation of the seas and our ability to win in battle. With the U.S. Navy under increasing threat from adversaries with advanced Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) cyber capabilities, visual communications provide a secure method of communication that is difficult to tamper with or jam.

This app is designed to support Quartermaster A-School students in the Visual Signaling Curriculum and QM Training for Watch Standing PQS, as well as fleet sailors preparing for SURFOR MOB-N assessments. The app also provides training and practice for Navy Fleet Quartermasters, or any sailor, afloat or ashore, who wants to hone and maintain this crucial skillset.

Key Benefits:
-- Immersive techniques teach more quickly than traditional methods
-- Whole-word teaching techniques remove the deciphering process and allow Sailors to move quickly to target speeds
-- Realistically simulates the receipt of flashing light messages
-- Time between characters and words can be extended for new learners
-- App logs high scores and progress of users
-- Double Flash procedure allows users to practice receiving messages in a more authentic manner, and supports training while multitasking
-- Use with instructors as part of a class or as a solo learner

Supports following Fleet assessments:
-- SURFOR Exercise Manual MOB-N CE-NR10 and CE-NR07
-- NAVEDTRA 43942 series Search Light Operator 313.2.3 and Quarter Master of the Watch 319.3.2
