Diario La Tribuna

La Tribuna was one of the most important newspapers in the history of Paraguay, it was founded in Asunción in 1925 by Eduardo Schaerer, for more than five decades it was the main newspaper in the country and was called the dean of the national press, for being the first newspaper with a large circulation in the country and the first with international circulation. It maintained a firm line in opposition to the dictatorial regimes of Higinio Morínigo and Alfredo Stroessner, which is why it was the most harassed and persecuted media outlet for many years. His fight for an independent press had international repercussions and he was already awarded in 1953, along with his director Arturo Schaerer, the Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University, USA.
