What is the Tao Te Ching?
The Tao Te Ching is the central text of the Taoist religion, said to be written by the Chinese philosopher-sage Lao Tzu or Laozi, the founder of Taoism. The oldest portions known so far date back to the 4th century BCE. The book tells of the Ineffable Tao, or Way, and puts forth the key philosophical concepts that form the basis of Taoist virtue and practice.
