Canto do Canário da Terra

The ground canary (Sicalis flaveola), is also known as the garden canary, tile canary (Santa Catarina), field canary, chapinha (Minas Gerais), ground canary (Bahia ), canary-of-the-kingdom (Ceará), altar boy, head-of-fire and canary.

The canary-of-earth occurs in almost all non-Amazonian Brazil, from Maranhão to Rio Grande do Sul, inhabiting open areas, such as cerrados, caatingas and fields of culture. He has a habit of walking around the ground looking for seeds and insects. It is common to find large flocks of canaries with a predominance of immature birds. However, during the mating season, the formed couples separate to build their nests. In nature, the male accompanies and assists the female throughout the process of raising the young.
