Like other parakeets, the Australian parakeet is a psittaciform bird, belonging to the Psittacidae family. Called Melopsittacus undulatus, this species is very sociable and has a happy temperament, being indicated for those looking for an energetic bird that likes to sing.

Another trait of the Australian parakeet that is closely related to social behavior is living in groups. This means that such birds do not like to live alone and it signals the need for company for this pet. It is indicated that the partner is of the opposite sex, to avoid fights during the mating period.

Regarding the physical type, these parakeets are usually resistant, since their place of origin – the interior of Australia – is very arid, therefore they do not demand too much care. In addition, they are small animals, measuring about 18 cm and weighing between 22 and 34 g (males) or 24 to 40 g (females).
