About this app

Record a sighting using OzAtlas app: Did you see something? Photograph something? Contribute your sighting to the Atlas of Living Australia.

About the Atlas
The Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) is Australia’s national biodiversity database.  Founded on the principle of data sharing – collect it once, share it, use it many times – the ALA provides free, online access to millions of occurrence records to form the most comprehensive and accessible data set on Australia’s biodiversity ever produced.
By aggregating biodiversity information and making it more available online, the ALA is assisting scientists, planners, managers and others to create a more detailed picture of Australia’s biodiversity.  The ALA is used for research, environmental monitoring, conservation planning and management, education, and citizen science activities.

Our impact
By enabling science, industry and decision makers to work more efficiently, we impact many diverse areas of Australian biodiversity research and sustainability practice.

We are an essential resource for biodiversity conservation, sustainable ecosystem development, new species discoveries, systematics (relationships between living things), taxonomy (naming and classification), digitisation of biological collections, natural resource management and environmental impact assessments.

Please note that we are iteratively improving this app and encourage constructive user input into improving it. Please provide input via support-biocollect@ala.org.au

This app would be useful if you could search up a species and see the distribution of sightings like you can with the ALA website. Since thats not possible and you are only able to make your own recordings this app is redundant and additionally rather clunky. Just download inaturalist instead.

I like that you can upload all species, but when logging species the location section (address and map) doesn't work which renders the rest of the great features in this section useless. Also wish it would talk to bionet and share information with bionet as this is a better app than ISpyKoala but I still recommend ISpyKoala as that means the data is also in bionet
