About this app

FrogID is Australia’s first national citizen science frog call identification initiative – a project led by the Australian Museum in partnership with Australia’s leading natural history museums.

Use the App to create a free profile and record frog calls. You can choose to match your calls to the frog calls on the app, then submit your recordings to the Australian Museum frog experts to listen and verify the species.

With your help we can put more frog species on the map and track changes to their species and habitats over time, and therefore monitor the health of our ecosystems.

Handy little app. It's easy to use, easy to record the frogs and submit even if I don't know what is making the noise. Lots of info on the frogs. No crashing or instability. The only downside is that it takes months for submitted recordings to be reviewed but I can understand it can be hard work deciphering all that noise :) Would be good if I could choose my location as sometimes it must think I'm somewhere else as the list changes and I'm standing in the same spot.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review! We appreciate your patience as our team address a backlog in FrogID submissions. Rest assured, every recording is important and will be listened to. We’re investigating the frog list issue you mention, and we’re exploring tech enhancements to improve user experience - watch this space :) Thank you!

It would be great if it recognised the sounds and entered them instead of giving us a selection of sounds to choose from. What about people with hearing issues.

Thanks for your review. FrogID app users are not required to match the sound to a frog - this part can be skipped by selecting ‘Next’. All submissions are listened to and reviewed by our frog call experts at the Australian Museum. The project is not incorporating Artificial Intelligence at this stage. We’ve noted your great feedback, thank you!

It is a very easy app to use. Helping to build a frog id database is so important. Frogs are indicators of the health of our environment. The app is also a learning tool, providing all types of information about frogs 🐸 .
