i enjoyed it, but after a few replays it doesn't seem to have much variation other than the endings. the characters remain the same throughout different countries, and many of the choices are similar. it is well written and the resource management can be tough and is a little overwhelming in the beginning. the cheat code at the end was fun to use, but i likely wont play again for a while.

Really disappointed, and regret buying it. It started off interestingly enough, but what you don't realise at the time is that the spreadsheet IS the entire game. Soon as you launch and anticipate it getting interesting, it's done. Just wasted my life juggling numbers for nothing. First time I've ever come out of one of these books wishing I hadn't bothered, and not wanting to engage in a sequel. That the few choices I had came out incorrectly due to bugs was just salt in the wound.

It's a fascinating game. It's a powerful topic and talks about the near future in plausible ways. You'll want to play it through at least twice, since there's a learning curve. But it's also not well suited for this kind of game - some of the mechanics, like choosing which technologies to research by assigning scientists, is clunky and awkward. And once you play it a second time, you'll notice that the game is predictable. The exact same events happen in the same order, with the same names.
