About this game

You’re a clever but nearly friendless owl on the verge of losing everything you’ve struggled so hard to earn. With ruthless vulture creditors on your tail, you must track down a missing client whose case can save your career. But when your investigation takes a horrific turn, can you avoid becoming a deranged bird’s next victim?

"Talon City" is a 135,000-word interactive fantasy novel by Eric Moser. It’s entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

The Wards of Talon City, nine in all, sprawl as far as a bird can see. Thousands of trees house thousands of citizens, from the lowliest hummingbirds to the most magnificent eagles. Towering cottonwoods, oaks and spruces teem with life. And death.

Trapped in the middle of the city’s hierarchy, you face challenges at every turn. The eagles don’t respect you. The prey birds don’t trust you. You’re deep in debt, and now your most valuable client is nowhere to be found. Can even the cleverest owl prevail in such a desperate situation?

Can you survive the perils of Talon City?

My favorite aspect of this game was the dice roll. Due to the dice roll aspect I would recommend that any player choose one stat to focus on raising. I recommend wings: they seem to be the most widely useful and offer more opportunities to pass stat checks. The writing was decent but I would have preferred being able to join the bird at the end. Perhaps I agreed with them and would have helped them achieve their goals. It's a shame that was not offered and I was forced to work against them.

Having beta tested this game and also played it in full again now, I'm still very impressed with the writing, thoughtfulness, and variety this game immerses you in! For me, this was an emotional rollercoaster that builds stakes steadily, shows a convincing PC development arc, and offers many distinct characters to interact with. In classic Eric Moser fashion, the ending still breaks my heart. Highly recommend a playthrough!

Funny and engaging story. I've played many choice-making games, but it's the first one I've seen where the MC is a bird. I like the world building!
