Syekh Maher bin Hamad Al Mu'aiqly was born in the city of Medina in 1969, he came from the Al Muaqily clan from Yanbu. During Ramadan, the mosques where he usually leads Tarawih prayers will be filled with worshipers who wanted to pray behind him and listen to his recitations. Sheikh Maher was well known around Medina and admired among the members of the royal family and was later appointed as Adviser to Prince Abdul Majid in Makkah. He eventually left his job as an adviser and started teaching at King Abdullah Saud University in Makkah. In 2005-2006, Sheikh Maher was appointed to lead Tarawih prayers at the Prophet's Mosque.
