About this app

Make your arrival in New Zealand a smoother experience by filling out your New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) before you get here. You can submit it up to 24 hours before starting your trip to New Zealand.

Your declaration will take about 10 minutes to complete and you’ll need to answer the questions in English. You can update it at any time, up until you get to the border in New Zealand.

Information you need to provide when filling out your NZTD includes:
- Your passport, contact and flight details;
- Your immigration status (if required);
- Details about your trip, including your recent travel history;
- Items you are bringing into New Zealand, including in your carry on bags and checked in luggage.

With the NZTD app you can:
- Scan your passport to add your passport details;
- Add and complete multiple declarations, for example, for your children;
- Use offline mode to enter information while you’re flying or out of WiFi or data range. You need to be online to start or submit a declaration.

Once you’ve submitted your NZTD there’s nothing more you need to do. You won’t have to print anything out or show a QR code. Your NZTD will automatically show up when your passport is scanned at the border.

Finally being able to do this digitally is a huge step forward. Having to remember to bring a pen with you in your carry on seems almost archaic these days. However as an app there is a lot of room for improvement. For example if I could save my basic information like my name, address and passport details. This would be great for those of us that have to travel frequently. Edit: Can indeed save a profile.

Kia ora, thanks for your feedback. There is an option on the submission confirmation screen to save your personal details like my name, address and passport details you entered as a profile to reuse again.

Pretty good app to use and overall pretty intuitive. However, entering the phone number was a bit of a challenge as it assumed that you knew that the first box was for the country code and the second box was for your phone number. Also, the term "Home Number" implied to me that it says a landlines, and not a cell phone. Finally, it would have been handy for the user to be told at the beginning of the process that this had to be done at least 24h prior to departure. I did this simply by chance.

Love the UI design of the app, it's simple to use and visually aesthetic. However, it keeps saying my declaration submission has failed. Despite having green ticks on all sections, there is a glitch on "Travel History" where i select the single country i have been to, a green tick appears, but the final submission fails, and i go back to keep finding Travel History is incomplete again. I have force restarted the app numerous times, and tried using both wifi and mobile data, all to no avail

What's new

Travellers can submit a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) by using this official New Zealand Government app if they are arriving aboard a flight or cruise into New Zealand.

The new version (1.4.1) fixes an error with passport scanning on earlier versions.
