About Như Vầy Tôi Nghe
“Thus I Heard” (Evaṃ me sutaṃ) is the familiar opening phrase of many sutras, the words of Venerable Ānanda recounting what he had heard from the Buddha.
This title reminds the reader to return to the scriptures: to listen, reflect, and learn the teachings of the Buddha and his holy disciples as passed down in the Sutta Piṭaka.
The application was created with the simple desire to bring the scriptures closer to the reader, so that each person can read, understand, and practice what they have heard, following the path of Listening – Reflecting – Practicing (listening/learning, reflecting, practicing).
Thus I Heard hopes to contribute a small part to making reading, researching, and understanding the Buddhist scriptures more convenient, with relatively complete content, an elegant presentation, easy to read, and suitable for Vietnamese people.
The Sutra and Vinaya Pitaka
Content includes the following collections of scriptures:
Dīgha Nikāya (Long Discourses), Majjhima Nikāya (Middle Discourses), Saṁyutta Nikāya (Connected Discourses), Aṅguttara Nikāya (Numerical Discourses), Khuddaka Nikāya (Minor Discourses)
In addition to the Sutra Pitaka, the application also provides the Vinaya Piṭaka (Discipline Pitaka), giving readers broader access to the Pāli Tripiṭaka.
Vietnamese · Pāli · English
The scriptures are presented in parallel in Vietnamese, Pāli, and English. A sentence-by-sentence comparison feature places the original Pāli text alongside the translation, making it convenient for readers to refer to and compare with the original scriptures.
This application respectfully inherits the translation work of various translators—including Venerable Thich Minh Chau, Bhikkhu Indacanda (Vietnamese version), and Bhikkhu Sujato, Bhikkhu Brahmali, and Bhikkhu Bodhi (English version).
Commentaries and Supplementary Commentaries
The application includes Commentaries (Aṭṭhakathā) and Supplementary Commentaries (Ṭīkā)—valuable resources that help readers gain a deeper understanding of the meaning and context of the scriptures.
Please note: this section is currently an AI-generated translation and should only be considered as a reference; it cannot replace a fully compiled and reviewed translation by human translators.
We hope to gradually update the Vietnamese translation to a better version when we have sufficient data and favorable conditions—especially with the permission of the translators and the ability to digitize the content.
