The CHAMP® (Cardiac High Acuity Monitoring Program) app was developed by Children’s Mercy Kansas City to help caregivers of babies who are born with single-ventricle heart disease and are in the critical inter-stage period between the first and second stages of surgery document and communicate certain information to baby’s care team. During this inter-stage period, babies are at risk for rapid changes in their condition which may require changes in management or hospitalization. The app can be used to document certain pertinent information of inter-stage babies at home. The app then communicates this documented information to the baby’s care team nearly instantaneously.
As baby’s caregiver, you may input the following data into the app to be sent to baby’s care team to aid in disease management:
• Oxygen saturation
• Heart rate
• Intake of formula or breast milk (by mouth or tube)
• Output of stool, wet diaper, or vomiting
• Videos (maximum of 15 seconds each)
• Red flags (your concerns or questions)
The app is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, mitigate or prevent disease or health conditions. The app is a tool caregivers can use at home to assist with disease management of inter-stage babies.
Your baby must be actively enrolled in the CHAMP program at Children’s Mercy Kansas City, or another participating health care provider, in order for you or another caregiver of your baby to use the app functionality.
The CHAMP app is available in nine languages, including: English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Filipino, Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese.
