This grows best in warm and humid climate and a temperature range of 20 – 25 °C. Chilli is prominently cultivated in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab states of the country. It is commonly used in as an ingredient in various vegetables, spices, condiments, sauces, pickles and chutneys. Both green and dried chillies are the important ingredient of our diet. Pungency in chillies is because of “Capsaicin”, an alkaloid which, has medicinal value. Chilli is also a source of vitamin A, C and E.
