I’ll tell you the story of the 1989 Revolution right where it happened. I’ll take you for a walk to where the people built a barricade, the Army fired millions of cartridges, and the young died for freedom. Check your phone battery and travel back in time!
HistoryAR 89 uses AR images and geolocation to tell stories of historical events while guiding your steps through the actual spots where it all happened.
When you walk through a city, you discover it has several layers. And you find yourself wondering: what's the story of this building? Why does it look like that? Why are there bullet marks on that wall?
Many times, you don't have the time to go online and search for the answers. But what if there were an app that gave you the answers right away?
With HistoryAR 89, you can take a tour and access several layers of information about the places that intrigue you. The app guides you through different spots, different places that were the stage of historical events.
For example, you walk on Victoriei blvd. in Bucharest, and you get to Revolution Square. The Romanian revolution of 1989, that started in Timișoara, extended to Bucharest on the 21st of December. This square is the starting point of the riot in Bucharest. I'll tell you the story as it happened, I'll show you images from back then, but most of all I'll show you photos of how the surroundings look today, only augmented with graphical layers that picture the 1989 events.
A few streets away, in the University Square, people took to the streets and built a barricade to manifest their opposition to Ceausescu and the communist regime. I'll take you there and show you where the barricade was, and how the tanks smashed it under their tracks. You will be able to imagine, based on our augmented photos, young men kneeling in front of military vehicles speeding by, soldiers shooting, people dancing in the middle of the boulevard.
With the help of augmented reality, HistoryAR offers valuable insights into how people perceived the historical events back then, when they were actually happening. By simply switching to AR mode, you can see graphical representations of the 1989 events, and gain a real understanding of how it really felt to be there in real life.
