Barterchain is providing the infrastructure for communities and ecosystems to exchange value - in a transparent, secure, reliable way. It facilitates both inter and intra community bartering, and our trial phase showed that whether an individual is bartering for themselves, their household or their business - the moneyless exchange of skills and services benefits all who try it. And these benefits range from financial to social, members can outsource tasks, learn new skills, connect with others in an authentic way, all while saving money.
There’s an asymmetry today in commercial transactions; one person buys, the other sells. With a P2P barter platform like Barterchain however, buyer and seller are equal. Bartering emphasizes cooperation over competition, more for you means also more for me. This empowers the individual, strengthens the ecosystem and fosters unity and collaboration. Connecting human gifts with human needs - so we might all live in greater abundance
This platform is not only bringing barter back, it’s also solving the age old problems associated with barter. Fiat replaced the barter system because of two main issues:
A) VALUING SERVICES: When barter trading how do you value services relative to each other? What is three hours of yoga worth, relative to back end development?
B) DOUBLE COINCIDENCE OF WANTS: How do you find that special someone, who both has what you want AND wants what you have?
We’re solving these two age old problems associated with barter, unlike any of our bartering competitors, or traditional systems:
A) VALUING SERVICES: What is three hours of yoga worth relative to back end development? Our machine learning process monitors live trades so we can address price discovery / find this common measure value, and suggest future trade value in a time-based way while staying completely away from Fiat.
B) DOUBLE COINCIDENCE OF WANTS: We’re using matchmaking algorithms based on users’ offers, needs, interests and the findings of our advanced price discovery. Our trial phase showed there’s a 1 in 12 chance of finding someone who both has what you want and wants what you have. But our users don’t need to search for that special someone - we bring their options to them.
These matchmaking algorithms and machine learnings are completely new to the barter space. Much like on a modern dating site, users will be shown relevant barters one by one, and if / when both users swipe right - a chat unlocks for them to start their negotiations. This contrasts hugely with the ‘bulletin board’ approach of our competitors, saving our users time, and prioritizing their privacy.
Throughout history barter has always increased “during times of economic recession and inflation” (Cambridge Press, 1965) and given the current economic climate, we truly believe global barter is needed now more than ever. It will be completely free for members to use our app, and be part of our Barterchain. We’re leveraging technology for social and public good, giving members egalitarian access to the services they need, regardless of the economic climate, or their personal financial situation.
