About AGAJAR
The Javanese script is a written cultural heritage whose preservation in the digital age is urgently needed. As a cultural identity and philosophy of the Javanese people, the Javanese script is more than just a writing system. Therefore, this intangible cultural heritage must be preserved to prevent extinction and remain relevant for the Alpha generation, which is inherently connected to technology and gadgets. The challenge for education, particularly the local content subject of Javanese language, in the era of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0, is to preserve this intangible heritage to prevent extinction.
Although Javanese is a compulsory local content subject in East Java, numerous obstacles remain in the learning process. These include conventional and unattractive learning media for Javanese script, the perception that Javanese script is difficult and boring to learn, Javanese language/Javanese script is considered less prestigious than other languages, learning Javanese script is limited to reading and writing without understanding the correct pronunciation of each translated word, and teachers' lack of comprehensive phonetic correction for students.
These concerns have given rise to a new approach to breaking the cycle of difficulties in learning Javanese script. Students need a fun app that provides immediate feedback to accelerate their learning of Javanese script and language.
This requires the AGAJAR app, also known as the Javanese Script Gamification App based on ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition). This app was created for enjoyable learning, allowing users to memorize Javanese script while simultaneously understanding the pronunciation of words and sentences. According to Rahmatullah (2021), gamification is the process of using controllable game elements in specific fields, particularly education, to make them more engaging, understandable, and creative. Game elements are linked to motivation, participation, and achievement. Therefore, it can be concluded that gamification is a system designed to facilitate the learning process, transforming conventional media into modern media using both game and non-game methods. The AGAJAR app utilizes ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) technology, or automatic speech recognition, with an autocorrect feature, allowing students to learn to read Javanese script independently and in-depth through proper phonetics. The AGAJAR innovation is expected to dispel the notion that learning the Javanese script is difficult and archaic. It aims to enhance student retention, improve pronunciation, foster a love of local culture, add modern and innovative elements to the learning process, and foster an adaptive and sustainable digital learning ecosystem.
