The teaching used by the apostle is unique, helped by the fact that he never personally met his recipients. Paul highlights in the epistle that outside of Christ there is no salvation; Paul highlights the person of Jesus not only as a naturally born man, but as the very image (εικων) of the invisible God (1:15a), and He is the firstborn of all creatures (1:15b), and by Him they were created all things that are in heaven, and that are on earth, visible and invisible; be thrones, be dominions, be principalities, be powers; everything was created by him and for him (1:16); and Jesus is before all things (1:17a), and through Jesus all things subsist: (1:17b); and furthermore, since Jesus is made head of the body that is the church (1:18a), and Jesus is the beginning of all things (1:18b), and Jesus is the firstborn of the dead.
