The combination of a common library card and catalog, online lending network, and association structure under full-time management across three federal state borders is unique in Germany: Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. Other joint offerings include press readers, Munzinger databases for people and countries, Brockhaus encyclopedia and youth encyclopedia as well as MakerBoxes.
The purpose of the Metropol-Card-bibliotheken Rhein-Neckar e.V. is to promote and organize cooperation between public libraries in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, to provide high-quality library offerings, to strengthen the sustainability of developments by strengthening the metropolitan region concept and to strengthen educational equality.
