SKS-Campus guides you through the written portion of the theory exam for the Sportküstenschifferschein (SKS) – using the official question and answer catalog in its original wording, published by the Federal Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration, the German Sailing Association, and the German Motor Yacht Association.

The exam assesses how closely your answer matches the factual content, completeness, and technical terminology of the model answer. Therefore, you will find questions and model answers here exactly as they appear in the catalog – including lists where a specific number of examples are expected.

YOUR EXAM PROFILE
The SKS exam covers either "Engine and Sails" or "Engine Only." You select your profile upon first launching the app, and it will only show you the questions relevant to you: 492 questions for Seamanship I, or 475 for Seamanship II. No additional questions from the other exam section are included.

WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT REPLACE
The SKS theory exam consists of two parts. This app fully covers the written questionnaire; for the chart work (dead reckoning, cutlery calculations, and tides, a separate 90-minute exam section with 30 points, passing grade of 20 or higher), there are now separate graphic and calculation exercises for practice. However, this does not replace working with a real nautical chart, compass, and protractor – the app exercises are synthetic practice scenarios, not a substitute for independent work on a paper chart. Therefore, continue to include this part in your calculations.

The subject of Meteorology, including all 101 questions, is permanently free – including the exam mode, with no time limit and no account required. You can unlock the remaining subjects in your profile via in-app purchase or with an activation code, which you can type in or scan as a QR code.
