About Love Luapula

Luapula province is one of Zambia's ten provinces, and is located in the north of the country. The provincial capital is Mansa. Luapula Province was named after the Luapula River.

* Culture
The Culture play a very significant role in Luapula and Zambia at large and is closely linked to traditional and culture.

* Wildlife
Across the entire province are a number of wetlands that host some of the rare species in the entire world like the black Lechwe and the shoebill stock..

* Waterfalls
The vast water resources of Luapula provide potential for various economic activities associated with sustainable water usage, such as hydro power generation, agriculture and irrigation systems.

* Mining
Luapula has got so many economic avenues. In the area of minerals many parts of Mansa (which is the provincial capital) has abundant manganese which is even graded as super manganese in the world.

* Infrastructure
Infrastructure serves a central delivery mechanism in achieving sustainable economic development and in the generation of quality social-economic development in the country. Infrastructure still remains a major challenge to growth, economic diversification and human development in Zambia.(SNDP, 2010).

* Tourism
The province is a preserve for tourism. Its keys features for tourist attraction are the Samfya Beach, Bangweulu swamps, the eight waterfalls, Lusenga Plains National Park, and traditional ceremonies like the Mutomboko.

* Agriculture
Luapula Province does not have commercial farmers despite the area having adequate arable land and water resources.The province has favorable climate and soil for palm oil trees. Luapula has than 90,000 indigenous and 30,000 fully grown hybrid trees of palm trees.

* Physical Features
The four major physical features are the valleys along the Luapula River, the plateau running parallel to the river in the north-south direction, then Lake Mweru in the northern Chienge and Nchelenge district and Bangweulu in Samfya district. The last characteristics of the features are the swampy area to the south of Lake Bangweulu.

* Altitude
Altitude range from 900m in Luapula valley to 1,300 above sea level on the kawambwa plateau which are divided by the Muchinga escarpment running north to south.

* Climate
The province has a tropical climate with three distinct seasons; a cool dry season from April to August, a hot dry season from August to October and a warm wet season from November through to April. Meanwhile monthly temperature ranges from 16 degrees to 20degres with the valley recording temperatures high than 24degres in October.
