About Snowcrest
Snowcrest helps you explore the link between mountain climate and the equilibrium line altitude (ELA) — the balance height where annual snow gain meets melt.
Enter annual mean temperature, precipitation, latitude, slope aspect, and peak height. Snowcrest estimates ELA with a simplified statistical climate relation and draws a clear mountain section.
On the Warming screen, choose temperature rises of +0.5 °C, +1 °C, +2 °C, or +3 °C. Watch the snow line climb, see illustrative glacier-area retreat, and compare typical terminus positions with on-canvas arrows.
Tap elevation belts on the Profile canvas to open vegetation belts (montane forest, alpine meadow, alpine desert, permanent snow) and related glacial landforms such as cirques, horns, arêtes, and moraines.
