About NGUON
The NGUON is the biennial festival of the Bamoun Kingdom, one of the most iconic traditional festivals in Central Africa and the world.
Celebrated every two years in Foumban, Cameroon, this ancient royal event brings the Bamoun people together around their roots, culture, and history.
Founded by the Sultans of the Bamoun Kingdom, the NGUON is much more than just a festival. It is a vibrant celebration of Bamoun identity—a solemn occasion to pay homage to ancestors, pass on traditional values to younger generations, and reaffirm the unity of the people around their Sultan.
The program includes royal ceremonies, traditional dances, art and craft exhibitions, parades, ancestral music, and cultural rituals passed down through the centuries.
Recognized and celebrated internationally, the NGUON is listed as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. Each year, it attracts
thousands of visitors from Cameroon, Africa, and around the world,
making Foumban the cultural capital of Central Africa for the duration of
the festival.
The NGUON 2026 — the 549th edition — is an invitation to discover, experience, and
celebrate an exceptional civilization.
