Urai writes Tamil in three scripts, and converts freely between them.

உரை — the Tamil word for text, and for the commentary tradition that ran alongside it for two thousand years.

THREE SCRIPTS, ONE TEXT

• Modern Tamil — the script in use today
• Tamili — Tamil Brahmi, the script of the Sangam-era potsherds and cave inscriptions at Keezhadi, Kodumanal and Arikamedu
• Latin transliteration — an ISO 15919-inspired romanisation

Pick a script from the tab strip and your text is converted into it. There is no separate convert step, and no guessing about what you meant to type: the tab says which script you are writing, so every conversion runs in a known direction.

CONVERSIONS THAT COME BACK INTACT

Tamil to Tamili and back returns exactly what you started with. So does Tamil to transliteration and back — including the word-final pulli, which is where most converters quietly lose a letter. Move between all three as often as you like; the text does not decay.
