About AquaStrat
AquaStrat models how lakes form and change thermal layers through the year.
Set lake depth, wind speed, day–night air temperature range, and water transparency. A simplified one-dimensional heat-budget and mixing scheme computes the vertical temperature profile from surface to bottom.
Use the season control to move between spring, summer, fall, and winter. In summer, the water column typically shows an epilimnion, metalimnion, and hypolimnion. In winter, the model shows full mixing (turnover).
Tap the metalimnion band to inspect its depth range and temperature gradient. Matching dissolved oxygen and nutrient profiles update with the same conditions, illustrating how layering shapes vertical water-quality patterns.
Features:
• Adjustable lake parameters with live profile updates
• Canvas temperature, oxygen, and nutrient charts
• Layer structure view for stratified and mixed states
• Seasonal surface/bottom temperature cycle
• Preset lake scenarios for quick comparison
• Local calculation only — no account required
