Triangle Borea Active BR03 BT review: Hi-fi sound, Bluetooth convenience
These active stereo speakers might look like traditional hi-fi, but they are much more versatile - and with Bluetooth up their sleeve too.
When you think about the best Bluetooth speakers, you might not imagine the Triangle Borea BR03 BT. These powered stereo speakers look much more like traditional hi-fi, the only difference is, they don't need any additional kit to get started. These will play nicely with just your phone and a Bluetooth connection.
Of course, if you have a turntable, streamer or CD player - then there are all manner of inputs here to make use of, plus you can hook them up to your TV in place of a soundbar to truly get the most value from them.
But with no separate amplifier needed, the Triangle Borea BR03 BT can also simply stream music from your phone via Bluetooth too, making them a hugely versatile all-in-one (well, two) solution.
They're pretty nicely priced at $799/£599 (though do look around, they are available cheaper at some retailers) - but how do they perform? I got listening to find out.
The Triangle Borea Active BR03 BT sound fantastic, and are a superb option for anyone looking to dip their toe into the world of hi-fi, without losing the convenience they are used to from one-box speakers.
Triangle Borea BR03 BT Loudspeakers: Review
With no control app, a strange default tonal balance, and conventional industrial design, the Triangle Borea BR03 BT Loudspeakers might not seem ideal. You need to listen to these before you spend your money on anything else.
French manufacturer, TRIANGLE, celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2022 and introduced an impressive new lineup of loudspeakers to celebrate this important milestone. The Triangle Borea BR03 BT Wireless Loudspeakers caught our attention for the simple reason that they offer so much for under $800 USD and having just reviewed the impressive KEF LSX II Active Wireless Loudspeakers which retail for $1,400 USD (not including stands) — we needed to take a deeper dive.
Triangle Borea BR03 review
A new contender for best in class Tested at £399
It’s rare to find a pair of speakers at this price that sound so sophisticated, but these Triangles deliver refinement and detail in spades
At this level, the speaker market is an intimidating place to be. Many of the usual suspects, including B&W, KEF and Mission have plenty of five-star speakers to offer, with a select few even having a What Hi-Fi? Award to their names.
So, it’s going to take a special pair of speakers to stand out from the crowd. A pair of speakers exactly like the Triangle Borea BR03 standmounters.
Weird out of the box settings aside, the Triangle is a well thought out, comprehensively specified speaker system at a sensible price that delivers much of the same balance as the highly regarded passive version.
What would you expect to pay for a 60Wpc class-D amplifier with a built-in phono stage and Bluetooth receiver? $400? $500? $600? How about $170? That’s the difference in price between a pair of Triangle’s Borea BR03 standmount speakers, which were enthusiastically reviewed by Diego Estan on SoundStage! Access in May 2020, and the Borea BR03 BT, the subject of this review.
The $799 Triangle BOREA ACTIVE BR03 BT powered bookshelf speakers offer an all-in-one hi-fi system with a range of features and functions that make it the perfect addition to any home entertainment setup. These “active” speakers are designed to be versatile, offering HD Bluetooth aptX music streaming, a phono input for connecting a vinyl turntable, an optical input for your television, and a Sub output for connecting a subwoofer.
