A Child’s Journey is an easy-to-use resource that lists skills based on developmental milestones for typically hearing and typically developing children from birth to six years. It covers eight developmental domains, including Audition, Receptive Language, Expressive Language, Speech Articulation, Play, Cognition, Pragmatics, and Literacy. It was designed to be used as a tool for professionals who work with children who have hearing loss to:
• Monitor children’s acquisition of skills necessary for listening and spoken language communication
• Provide information about current levels of functioning and progress
• Identify areas of concern
• Select appropriate goals for ongoing development
• Aid in counseling families
For the first 24 months, developmental skills are specified in three-month age-range intervals. After the first 24 months, developmental skills are specified in six-month age-range intervals. Each skill can be marked as a goal, emerging, or mastered. It is available for tablets.
