The Logistics Sector in India is the backbone of the Manufacturing Industry.
The Logistics Sector has become the focus sector of the Govt of India especially with a view to reduce the transaction costs which is presently 14% of the GDP. Improvements in infrastructure and welcome regulatory changes will definitely help in this regard.
Logistics Sectoris verymanpower intensive and even process driven transactions need to be handled by well trained personnel. This is one area where India has not had the benefit. Training in the Logistics Sector has largely been 'On Job' and only employees in the larger Logistic Companies have the advantage of some form of structured training. Obviously, this is not a satisfactory state of affairs. The Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC) created as an Industry apex body by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is a very progressive step taken to correct this.
