The Visual Soil Structure Assessment (VESS) is a paddle test where a grade is assigned to the soil based on its physical quality, the criteria for such a note are the natural aggregates present, pores, roots, and other physical characteristics. The grade can vary from Qe1 (great) to Qe5 (bad). In order to carry out the VESS, a letter is taken to the field where a description of the procedure on one side and the other the 5 levels of quality with images are used, where a measurement is made to aid in the conclusion of the note. From this note, which is semi-quantitative, one can see several things in relation to the soil, such as agricultural potential, productivity, management, etc. (Guimarães et al, 2011).
In order to facilitate the use of the existing methodology, the VESS OFFICIAL application was developed, based on the Visual Assessment Primer.
