Social security in Thailand. In Thailand, compensation funds are the first step in social security, providing protection for employees in case of danger. According to Announcement No. 103 of the Revolutionary Committee on March 16, 1972, under the management of the Compensation Fund Office of the Ministry of Labor. The Social Security Office was established under the Ministry of the Interior on September 3, 1990. The work related to providing social security and compensation funds has been transferred from the Ministry of Public Welfare and the Ministry of Labor to the Social Security Office. In the same year, the draft of the Social Security Law was approved by Parliament and came into effect on September 2, 1990. Since the establishment of the Ministry of Labor in 1993, the Social Security Office has been under comprehensive supervision. The Social Security Office is responsible for comprehensive social security plans, including injuries or illnesses, disabilities, and deaths. This is due to work, including childbirth, child welfare, elderly people, and unemployment.
