Surah Yasin, also written as Ya Sin and Yaseen, is the 36th Surah (chapter) of the Quran and contains 83 ayats (verses). For those who don’t know what is surah Yasin, it is the heart of the Quran as it mentions all six articles or root beliefs Islam, including belief in only one God, belief in prophethood, and belief in after-life and resurrection, among others.

Surah Yasin says that the Quran is a divine source, and warns those who do not believe in God’s revelations. It also narrates about the punishments that were suffered by nonbelievers and their children and generations further. The surah reiterates God’s sovereignty and the existence of Resurrection. It is classified as a Meccan surah, whose main theme is to explain some of the basic beliefs of Islam, specifically the belief in life after death.

Benefits of Reciting Surah Yasin

Multiplied Rewards: Many scholars have said that the reward for reciting Surah Yasin once is as much as reading the Holy Quran ten times. The greater reward from Allah is a key reason why Surah Yasin is considered so important.
Forgiveness from Allah: Believers reciting Surah Yasin with a clean heart are sure to be forgiven for their sins by Allah while they are asleep.
Spiritual Guidance: Those who recite this surah regularly are guided by Allah in everyday matters. It takes away fear and apprehension and gives one the strength to sail through tough times:
Peaceful Passing: It is suggested to recite Surah Yasin to a dying person as it helps them to peacefully pass to the other side.

Dua after Surah Yasin

There is no accurate Hadith about dua after Yasin, but it is believed that any dua offered after reciting Surah Yasin will be accepted by the mercy of Allah Almighty. Let us see some short and meaningful duas which can be recited after Surah Yasin:

Dua: Alhamdu lillahii ‘ala kulli ne’matin wa astaghfirullaha min kulli zambin,wa asaluhu min kulli khairin,wa a’udhu billahi min kulli sharrin
Translation: Praise be to Allah for all the blessings. Oh Allah, Forgive all our sins, give us all that is good and keep us away from all that is bad.

Dua: Allahumma inni asaluka wal amna wal eemaana fid-dunya wal aakher
Translation: O Allah I ask of You peace & faith in this world and in the hereafter.

Dua: Allaahu, Allaahu, Rabbi Ar-Rahmanur-Raheemu, Laa ushriku bihi shay’aa
Translation: Allah, Allah, my Lord, the Most Gracious [and] the Most Merciful I do not associate anything with Him.

Dua: Yaa may-yakfee min kulli shayin walaa yakfee minhu shayun ikfinee maa ahammanee mimaa anaa feehi
Translation: O He who is sufficient from all things but nothing is sufficient from Him. Be sufficient for me in what worries me in the state I am.
