The Franconian climbing portal Frankenjura.com has been offering climbers information for Franconian Switzerland, the entire Northern Franconian Jura, the Fichtelgebirge and the Steinwald since 2001.
The app offers offline functionality and contains over 1,500 topos and 15,000 routes. In addition, blocking information and rock events are also displayed in context. The new version of the app comes with a fresh design and further improvements.
Offline maps
Yes, you read that right: In addition to the topos, rock and route descriptions, the large northern Bavarian map now also works in flight mode! By downloading the data once, you can use the app to its full extent wherever there is unfortunately still no stable internet. And that's not all that rare, as you've already noticed on one or two rocks.
Improved detailed maps
Access description is a thing of the past: Our detailed maps on the rock descriptions now provide not only the rock position but also the location of the parking lot and the access track to the rock. The navigation system can also be started from the app at the push of a button. Once there, a blue marker on the access map will show you your exact location. So if you can read maps, you no longer have to plow through access descriptions to find the rock. The detailed maps also work in flight mode!
Rock overviews
Until now there were rock overviews on Frankenjura.com, but not in the app. This gap is now closed. Rock overviews provide a graphical overview of larger rocks or connected rock areas, such as the Röthelfels or the Stone City. From these you can call up individual sectors and - even better - display them both on the large map as a purple marker and on the detailed maps including the access track.
Rock search according to criteria
There are currently eight criteria included in the search: season, slope, protection, stars, wetness index, children, discipline and orientation. These are placed on the left and right edges of the screen when you start the app, but can be hidden. When you click on a criteria button, a window opens in which one or more characteristics can be selected. As soon as the criteria window is closed after a selection, the results are displayed in real time on the map, so the rocks displayed there are reduced based on the selection made. For example, if you tick South, Southeast and Southwest in the criteria window for orientation, then after closing the selection window only rocks with a south-facing exposure will appear on the map.
Rock events and rock closures
It couldn't be more up-to-date: The Frankenjura team fills the website and therefore the app with new information every day, sometimes even hourly: rock events, helpful comments on the individual routes, photos and newly developed rocks or sectors. You are always up to date.
Free basic version and paid premium version
The basic version of the app offers a selection of around 50 rocks with a full range of functions. The premium version of the app can be ordered for a fee for Apple users and is a helpful additional feature at no additional cost for Frankenjura premium users.
