About Drone Tether

Drone Tether is an app used for autonomous drone flights with a pair of DJI drones. The app allows you to connect two compatible DJI drones with a virtual tether. Connected drones communicate exchanging their positions in real time. The drone flies autonomously by following the leading drone, keeping a predefined distance. The app allows you to view the video stream from the drone’s primary camera during the flight operation.

Drone Tether app is used with DJI drones and requires a DJ RC controller to be connected to the device. Following DJI drones are supported:

1. Matrice 350 RTK
2. Matrice 300 RTK
3. DJI Mini 3
4. DJI Mini 3 Pro
5. DJI Mavic 3M
6. DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise Series
7. Matrice 30 Series

The app was developed by DeepMAV.ai.

The app requires two compatible DJI drones, each controlled by a compatible DJI RC controller, and each running the Drone Tether app. The app requires that the two devices connected to RC controllers for each drone are connected on the same Wi-Fi network for discoverability.

The app allows you to safely take off, land and return to takeoff location by using the flight control panel on the bottom.

Pairing

To pair the two drones, first, on the leading drone turn on the tether mode by pressing the Tether On button. A unique code is displayed allowing you to identify the drone on the local network. Then, on the follower done, press the Connect button and select the leading drone from the list of discovered tethers by the unique ID. Once selected, the drone connection is established.

When put into autonomous flight mode, the follower drone will automatically navigate, following the leading drone, and keeping a predefined distance away from it. Automatic drone following may be stopped by either disconnecting from the leading drone, or by stopping autonomous flight mode.

You can create a large group of connected drones by sequentially pairing drones to each other, as Drone Tether allows each drone to act as both a leader and a follower in the pairing. This will allow you to control a large number of drones flying as a group by manually controlling only one drone. Please note that operating a large number of remotely piloted aerial systems is strictly regulated in some jurisdictions and you must comply with your local regulations.

Simulator Mode

Drone Tether app allows you to test your drone flight in simulator mode. Simply start the app, turn on your drone, make sure the RC is connected to the drone, and connect the device to the RC. Pressing the Sim On/Off button switches between simulator and normal mode. When the simulator is turned on, the button will show the Sim On status.

In simulator mode, the drone will perform takeoff, autonomous flight, landing, or return to home functions, as if it was truly flying. The map will display the drone’s simulated location. All other functions of the app are enabled including Tether and Connect modes and video preview.

No account creation or login required. Simply start the app and start flying.

Make sure to fly responsibly and obey your local drone regulations.
