About Commonplace
Commonplace is a personal reading journal designed thoughtfully for book club members who want a beautiful, private space to track everything their group reads. The app opens to a warm clothbound journal view, where a handwritten dashboard on an aged sticky note shows your reading totals at a glance using pencil tally marks for overall reads, this month’s finished books, and upcoming picks. Adding a new Club Read takes just a moment: tap the fountain pen button, fill in the title, author, and genre, and optionally set a date finished to mark it as completed. Finished books appear in the Reading Log sorted by most recent date, each entry penned in flowing dark blue ink with a tiny colored thread stitched in the margin that hints at the genre. A delicate dusty purple library date stamp seals the end of every completed entry, giving your log the quiet charm of a well-loved reading notebook without any checkmarks. For books you plan to read next, simply leave the finished date blank and they will appear automatically in the Upcoming tab, where a placeholder note line waits for your meeting reflections. Swipe any entry to the left and a red ink stroke crosses it out, letting you remove a title cleanly and keeping your list as current as your club’s conversations. Navigating between sections feels like lifting silk ribbon bookmarks—burgundy, mustard, navy, and sage—that rest along the bottom edge, each one embroidered with a tiny gold motif for Journal, Reading Log, Upcoming, and Search. The Search tab lets you quickly find any book by its title or author, displaying matching entries as neat handwritten lines so you can look back on past recommendations or check if a title has already been read. Because all your Club Reads are stored locally on your device, your reading history stays completely private and accessible even without an internet connection. There are no accounts to create, no subscriptions to manage, and no cloud syncing to configure—just open the journal and start recording. Whether you are an avid member tracking every monthly pick or an organizer planning the next few meeting selections, Commonplace gives you a quiet, tangible-feeling tool that honors the simple ritual of jotting down a beloved book. The dashboard sticky note updates instantly every time you finish a book, helping you celebrate reading streaks and keep a gentle rhythm for your club’s progress. Editing any entry is as simple as tapping it, which opens a clean form where you can adjust the details or update the finished date if a book moves from upcoming to completed. From the first blank journal page that gently prompts you to jot your first club read, Commonplace turns your device into a cherished reading companion that feels like a clothbound notebook made just for your circle of readers.
