The Lord Jesus dictated this prayer to Sister Faustina between September 13 and 14, 1935 in Vilnius, as a prayer to appease divine wrath.
People who pray this chaplet offer to God the Father “the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity” of Jesus Christ as propitiation for their sins, the sins of their families and those of the entire world. By joining the sacrifice of Jesus, they appeal to this love with which God the Father loves His Son and He loves all people.
By praying this chaplet – Jesus said on another occasion – You bring humanity closer to me (Diary, 929). To the souls who pray this chaplet, My mercy will surround them with life and especially at the hour of death” (Diary, 754)
Father Ignacio Rózycki speaks of three conditions for the prayers of that hour (3PM) to be heard:
1. The prayer must be directed to Jesus.
2. It must be prayed at three in the afternoon.
3. It must appeal to the values and merits of the Passion of the Lord.
In that hour – Jesus promised – you can obtain everything you ask for for yourself or for others. In that hour grace was established for the whole world:
mercy triumphed over justice (Diary, 1572).
