Chess Nova is a free offline chess game — play chess against the computer or
pass the phone and play chess with a friend. No ads, no sign-up, no wifi
needed.

Whether you are learning chess for the first time or you have played for
years, this chess game gives you a clean board, a proper chess clock and an
opponent that actually plays chess properly.


PLAY CHESS OFFLINE, ANYWHERE

Chess Nova works completely offline. On a plane, on the metro, in a basement
with no signal — the chess board is always there. The app does not even
request internet permission, so you can play chess without wifi or mobile
data, ever.

The computer opponent thinks about the position rather than playing random

Pass & Play turns your phone into a chess board for two. Hand it across the
table and play chess with a friend — no second device, no account, no
internet.


CHESS CLOCK INCLUDED

Play chess with no time limit at all, or switch on a real chess clock at 10,
15 or 20 minutes a side. The clock pauses when you leave the app, so nobody
loses a chess game while their phone is in a pocket.


CHESS FOR BEGINNERS

Learning chess? Turn on move hints and every legal move appears as a dot on
the board. Tap a piece to see exactly where it can go. Switch the hints off
when you no longer need them — the chess board grows with you.

ALL THE REAL CHESS RULES

Many free chess apps cut corners. This one does not:

• Castling, both sides, fully validated
• En passant
• Pawn promotion, including under-promotion
• Checkmate and stalemate
• Draw by threefold repetition, fifty-move rule and insufficient material
• Winning on time — and the rule that a lone king cannot win on time

The move generator is verified against the standard published chess test
positions, so the rules are correct, not approximate.


NEVER LOSE A GAME

Close the app mid-game and your chess game is waiting when you come back.
Chess vs computer and 2 player chess are saved separately, so one never
overwrites the other.
