Early Music Companion: a resource for performers of Renaissance & Medieval Music
Renaissance and Medieval music was composed on the basis of music theory that is no longer in use. As with modern compositions, early music scores do not provide every detail needed to perform them properly. Musicians are expected to learn how to interpret scores, based on the music theory employed when they were written. Early Music Companion provides a variety of resources to help performers interpret Medieval and Renaissance music.
Early Music Companion offers the following resource:
* A live Guido's Hand, with an optional hexachord chart that shows notes as they are played.
* A solmization tutor, including sample scores in all eight modes.
* A database of composers born between 900 and 1650, including workplaces and links to teachers and students.
* Quick References for early notation, modes, and clef transpositions.
Early Music Companion is a non-profit, ad-free app.
