The Club was established in 1868 and was then known as the ‘Pinang Club’. The first President of the Club was Mr Walter Scott who was also a member of the Penang State Legislative Council. The Honorary Secretary at the time was Mr F C Bishop. Unfortunately, no comprehensive record was kept of the history of the Club. References to the Club were however made in various publications over time.
