Do you ever see letters like jumping, dancing, spinning?
Do you feel that reading, spelling, and writing are a hellish torture?
Dyslexia is not a fiction or a myth. In fact, 10% of the world's population has dyslexia though they are often misunderstood and rarely detected. Dyslexia is a real yet invisible issue which can't be explained, perceived, or imagined completely by other people. If it can't be understood, asking for acceptance is impossible.
BOOX is a set of visual narrative book and augmented application created by Fonita Theresia Yoliando in collaboration with UCSI University and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. It comes as an alternative method to empathise people with dyslexia by developing a deeper comprehension through augmented simulation of seven visual distortions (halo, blurry, wash-out, rivers, shaky, swirl, and seesaw) which experienced by people with dyslexia.
The aim of this project is to educate people, especially parents and educators to have some level of empathetic understanding through a hands-on experience of how it feels to see the wor(l)d as a dyslexic. Hopefully, by putting people in dyslexic's shoes where they could never be rather than just talking about it makes them excited and engaged in a more meaningful and impactful way.
"I believe we are here for a reason. I find that the meaning of life is to give life meaning not wait for life to give me a meaning. Hopefully, through this project someone find their meaning and I wish that person is you." (FTY - 2019)
