The ESTRO App comes to bring information about the Cananéia region, the gray dolphin observation tourism and the possibility of user participation through citizen science.
Burst is the name given to the hunting behavior of the gray dolphin, one of the most commonly seen dolphin species on the Brazilian coast and very common to be observed on boat trips in the Cananéia region on the south coast of the State of São Paulo. Therefore, the name of the application alludes to this behavior that is so important for this animal.
The application was created with the aim of sharing information about observation tourism for this animal in the region and facilitating observation activities by indicating the best places to observe porpoises, which were identified through the monitoring efforts of the species carried out by the Project team. Boto-Cinza and which is now reaping the results for the conservation of the species.
But in addition to disseminating information, the user himself will be able to contribute to the project's scientific research activities, participating in our journey as a citizen scientist. The contribution begins by answering a brief questionnaire about local tourism and continues by allowing tourists to share their trip with researchers, by sending the route taken, as well as recording the dolphins observed.
The citizen's contribution to research is a growing practice in numerous projects, and with the ESTRO application, user participation does not end with sending the information that is so important for the research, but the participant will be rewarded with different gifts at each stage in which he complete your citizen scientist level.
The user also has sessions on the main tourist attractions to visit, as well as videos about local caiçara culture.
