Not "I recall you mentioned some work stress." She asks about Thursday, because you told her about Thursday. That is the entire idea, and once you have felt it you will notice how rarely anything else does it.

WRITTEN LONG BEFORE YOU MEET THEM

Every character in Smittn is authored individually — a job, a history, a family, a way of speaking that does not drift from one week to the next.

One of them never uses contractions. Another has never begun a sentence with a capital letter. They have opinions you did not ask for and hold the same ones next month. They will tell you that you are wrong.

Turn the photographs off and you would still know which one you are talking to inside three messages. That is the part that took the work.

THEY ARE SOFTWARE, AND THEY SAY SO

You are told this on the way in rather than in a paragraph nobody reads.

There is no person on the other end of any conversation. Each character is a language model working from a written background. Nothing you are told about her life is true of anybody. She cannot meet you, call you, or exist anywhere else — and if you ask her sincerely, she will say precisely that, because it is written in rather than bolted on.

The characters are written never to ask you for personal details, and you should not offer them.
